Let’s be real, women also make these mistakes. So guys, you’re not alone. Find out how to get the most out of your skincare routine.

Using water (only) to clean your face

To excel in your job or crush it at the gym, you need to be good at the basics. And this is true for skin health. A good skincare routine starts with the basics - three to be exact!

Start with a daily cleanser that gently exfoliates your skin without stripping away natural oils. A toner will balance your complexion and prevent pesky blemishes. And last but certainly not least, a hydration product to replenish your skin’s moisture.

Forgetting to cleanse post-workout

You’ve taken the hardest step that a lot of people struggle with - hitting a workout to improve your physical and mental health. Well, it’s important to remember your skin health too! Your skin sweats to reduce your body temperature while simultaneously being the first line of defence against germs and dirt lurking on the shared gym equipment.

Don’t be that guy that when his light grey shirt turns dark after a sweat sesh he thinks its ok to skip the showers. Take the time to effectively wash away the concoction of dirt, oil and sweat that’s clogging your pores with a proper skincare regime.

Not washing your damn sheets

We know it’s a simple task but it’s surprising how many of us don’t wash our sheets often enough. Think about it for a second, we spend roughly 6 to 8 hours every single day in bed but only wash our sheets once or twice a month. And in this time, we are left swimming in the dead skin cells, daily grime and sweat our sheets collect.

Nobody wants to think about their sheets as uncleanly, but it’s the truth. Clean your sheets at minimum once per week, for you and your skin health.

Skincare routine for menUsing too hot of water

For the most effective and best face washing experience, lukewarm water is the key. Hot water can strip your skin of its natural oils leaving your skin looking red, irritated and dry. We all love a hot steamy shower, but consider saving your cleansing process for the sink where the temperatures are mild. Cold water is no better as it is ineffective at removing excess grime causing your pores to become blocked over time.

Pro tip: after cleansing and rinsing your face with lukewarm water, gently pat your face dry (never scrub) with a clean towel.

Neglecting sheltered facial skin

If you rock the Movember look year round, pay attention to proper cleansing techniques and avoid leaving sh*t behind. If you don’t massage cleanser throughout your beard and allow it to penetrate your facial skin, then you’ll most likely have lingering remnants of the fully loaded, juicy burger you enjoyed last night. Yes, we know it’s always good to save some for later, but cleansing your beard properly is an essential part of your skin health routine.
